Pacemaker adjustments

The "hockey puck" makes a wireless
data connection to the pacemaker
Dr. Shetty visited today to review the configuration of the pacemaker as it was installed yesterday during surgery.  She made a few tweaks to parameters that control the upper and lower limits of Muriel's heart rate as well as setting reasonable thresholds for what events will be logged by the device for later retrieval.  Every event logged uses a bit of energy, which takes away from the overall lifetime of the device.  As configured now Dr. Shetty expects it to last as long as eight years.  At that point Muriel will have minor surgery to replace the device itself.  I can only imagine that the devices available in eight years will be so much more advanced that perhaps it will never need to replaced again (self winding pacemaker?).
